Brotherhood of Battle update

Posted by Moonkey Jul. 4, 2008 @ 3:29 PM EDT

So you may have heard of Brotherhood of Battle. It's the turn based strategy game that JAZZA and I have been working on all this year, and recently released. It's just had its first update since release, which cleans up the bugs where occasionally players would be left hanging when someone disconnected from a 3 or 4 player game.

The other main improvement is to the Quick Play matchmaking system. Players can now only choose 2, 3 or 4 player games - not the game type. This means it's much easier to find 3 and 4 player games, and all game types are played regularly instead of just assault. But if you're really hanging out for a certain game type, there's always the custom game browser.

If you haven't heard of the game before, matches consist of 2-4 players, across 5 different game types. Players have 5 units at their disposal to help them complete their objective. Capturing gold mines earns you money each turn which can be spent on upgrading your fortress and unlocking new moves and upgrades for your units, or recruiting reinforcements.

If multiplayer strategy sounds like your thing, give it a go!

When are you guys gonna release it on NG??

Jul. 4, 2008 | 3:42 PM Moonkey responds:

We're just trying to make sure the game is as stable as it can be before releasing the demo version. The main version at XGen can be updated at any time, but once the demo version is out there, it becomes hard to fix any lingering bugs.
I'd say its still a few weeks away sorry.

It is insanely awesome game and I am pretty amazing that Jazza got Don Lafontaine to voice in the game trailer. This is a next-gen flash game! Excellent job Moonkey for coding this beast.

Jul. 16, 2008 | 9:38 AM Moonkey responds:

Thanks! Yeah, Jazza went to great lengths to get Don Lafontaine, and it turned out awesome.

When you release it, are you going to allow all sites to take the full game, or almost the full game? Or are you going to only allow really limited versions on other sites?

Jul. 16, 2008 | 9:39 AM Moonkey responds:

We'll only be able to have a pretty limited "demo" version for sites other than xgen unfortunately. Looks like 1 game type and a couple of maps only.

hey i have an opinion on one of the powers of the mage "freezing" its a pretty handy move and i think it should be the boutable ability and the mana charge other one (forgot name sorry) the ability to put an unit out of combat for the enemys next turn is just too helpful lol even more than recharging some one elses mana a bit

any ways i enjoy the game =) good job man

I still think it's funny that it shortens to "BoB."

Moonkey recommend some top class books or anything to help me with learning AS to such an advanced degree?

Jul. 16, 2008 | 9:44 AM Moonkey responds:

I'm not really sure about any actionscript books. I had learnt java and C++ already, so most of the bases were covered already when it came time to learn actionscript. I'm not much of a book person anyway. I did start out with actionscript during a multimedia course, so that was good for a base understanding, but after that it's just tutorials on the net and a lot of pressing f1 to look things up in flash help.
